JIXLAB is a collaborative venture between Blank Bubble, LLC and WOhRKS, and is currently in its pre-incubation phase. The vision is to explore JIX [plastic straw construction system] in architectural scale and to create a design community who shares the same passion.

2015  |  Competition Proposal

Patrick Martinez & Sung Jin Oh

The proposed folly is a light and a translucent pyramidshaped structure that is mostly built with plastic straws. The folly invites the public to experience its structure from within, bounded physically inside and yet in permanent visual contact with the outside, by looking through the translucent and intricate straw structure. As the folly with a disposable, mundane consumer product, offers the public a place of paradox, Pyramid is a catalytic way of questioning whether its expressed tectonic nature have a legitimate or even an inspiring place in our material world of postmodern capitalism.
